Candy Cane Wreath Supplies

Candy Cane Wreath Form

You can find these candy cane wreath forms at the Dollar Tree every year around Christmas time or on Amazon. These wreath shapes are shaped just like real candy canes.

You definitely want to buy them as early as possible during the holiday season since they go fast, especially since they only cost $1!

Red and White Striped Ribbon

You’ll need red and white striped ribbon that is about 2″ wide. I used 3 yards of ribbon but the length you need will depend on how much you overlap the ribbon as you wrap it. I bought mine at Michaels.

Red Ribbon

Make sure you have some red satin ribbon to create a large bow for your wreath.

Hot Glue Gun

You’ll want a glue gun and some glue sticks to create this candy cane wreath.

Small Holiday Decorations

To accent the wreath, you’ll want a few holiday decorations.

How to Make a Candy Cane Wreath

Just follow the simple directions below to learn how to make a lovely candy cane wreath decoration.

Wrapping the Ribbon

We are going to start wrapping the striped ribbon around the bottom of the candy cane and work our way up.

First, decide which side will be the back of the wreath.

Next, wrap one end of the ribbon at the bottom of the wreath at a diagonal on the back side.

Add some hot glue to the end of the ribbon, then press down to hold it into place.

Add a little more hot glue to the ribbon and fold up the bottom edge so it’s flat over the base of the wreath form.

Wrap the ribbon at a diagonal around the candy cane wreath form.

Add small amounts of hot glue as you go on the BACK side of the candy cane to hold the ribbon in place.

Helpful Tip: The hot glue will show through the ribbon, so always add the glue to the back, not the front.

Keep wrapping the ribbon and gluing around the candy cane until you reach the rounded neck of the candy cane at the top.

Helpful Tip: Line the red stripes up on the ribbon as you wrap it. It makes the wreath look cleaner and more consistent.

Once you get to the rounded part of the candy cane it gets just a little trickier.

Make sure you that you are keeping the stripes at a consistent straightness.

Some parts you might have to overlap more than others, and that’s okay!

Consistency is the key- make sure that you are lining up the stripes the best that you can.

Once you get to the end of the candy cane, trim the end of the ribbon and use hot glue to glue the last bit of ribbon to the back of the wreath.

Trim the bottom of the ribbon with scissors to get rid of some of the extra.

Wrap the leftover ribbon up along the back and glue so that there is a nice clean straight edge.

Adding the Bow

Make a bow with some red satin ribbon.

Trim the ends so they are nice and neat, then set the bow aside.

Cut a piece of ribbon so it’s a couple inches long.

Add a strand of hot glue along one of the long edges and hold the sides together to form a long tube.

Wrap that ribbon tube around the knot in the middle of the bow, then hot glue it in the back to cover the knot.

Candy Cane Wreath Embellishments

Before gluing down the bow, you’ll want to arrange the greenery, berries, and other decorations first so you know where they will go.

Once arranged, glue each piece on, one at a time.

Add some hot glue to the back of the red bow, then hold the bow in place as the hot glue cools.

Next, I glued some fake berries in two different sizes and some mini pinecones to add more color and texture to my wreath.

Now the wreath is complete!
